What is Redefine?

Redefine is a Sunday evening youth group designed to be a relaxed, welcoming space for young people to explore life, faith, and big questions together. It’s open both to young Christians and to those who are simply interested in discussing God and the Christian faith, whatever their starting point.

Each week includes time for Bible study and discussion in a circle-style group, where everyone is encouraged to contribute, ask questions, and think things through for themselves. We also include prayer, open Q&A, games, and space to simply hang out and build friendships.

The space itself is designed to be fun and interactive, with musical instruments, computers, board games, puzzles, and crafts available, alongside areas to relax and chat.

We aim to keep Redefine intentionally small and informal, creating a calm, supportive environment with no pressure to participate or to believe anything before someone is ready. Alongside this, we provide refreshments each week, including hot chocolate, fruit, gluten-free snacks, and biscuits.

Redefine is run by a team of committed local Christians, all of whom are DBS checked and trained in safeguarding. The group is led by an experienced, full-time youth worker with over twenty years’ experience working with young people.

What are we looking at this term?

This term, our youth group will be exploring a series called “How to get a GRIP on stress”, helping young people think about the pressures of school, exams, and everyday life through the lens of the Bible.

Each week, we’ll focus on one key theme—Gratitude, Rest, Identity, and Patience—and take time to study and discuss a central Bible passage together, including Colossians 3:15–17, Matthew 11:28–30, Psalm 139, and Proverbs 14:29–30. We’ll be encouraging young people to engage with the text for themselves—asking questions, exploring what it means, and considering how it applies to their own lives.

Our aim is to help them grow in confidence reading the Bible, while also equipping them with practical ways to respond to stress and build resilience. Sessions are discussion-based and designed to be accessible to everyone, creating space for honest questions and thoughtful conversation.

We began the series by looking at Jesus’ words on the cross, drawing from Psalm 22, and reflecting on how the Bible speaks into real experiences of stress, struggle, and hope.

What have we looked at over the last year?

Over the past year, Redefine has spent time exploring a range of Bible passages and themes, helping young people grow in confidence reading and understanding the Bible for themselves.

We began with a walk through Philippians, exploring themes of joy, perseverance, and following Jesus in everyday life. From there, we looked at the Bible’s wisdom literature, considering how books like Proverbs and Ecclesiastes speak into questions of decision-making, meaning, and justice in today’s world.

We also spent time in Mark’s Gospel, working through key moments in Jesus’ life and teaching, and asking what it means to respond to him personally.

Throughout the year, sessions have been discussion-based and interactive, encouraging young people to ask questions, reflect on what they’re reading, and consider how the Bible connects with their own experiences and choices.

Supporting you as parents and carers

At Redefine, we see our youth work as something we do in partnership with parents and churches. We want to support you in helping your young people navigate the challenges they face, make wise decisions, and grow in confidence, both in themselves and in their understanding of the Christian faith.

Everything we do is aimed at complementing what’s happening at home, creating a space where young people can explore, ask questions, and engage thoughtfully with God.

As part of this, we are always happy to meet with parents and carers—whether to talk through how things are going, offer support, or simply to listen. We also want to be a resource for you, providing training and input where helpful, particularly around supporting young people with faith, wellbeing, and the pressures they face.

We recognise that parenting teenagers can be both rewarding and challenging, and we would love to support you in that journey, including taking time to pray with and for you where appropriate.
