Refresh 2018

Hi all,

On Thursday 30th August we will be holding our annual Refresh Mini-Conference. This is always a great fun filled event and well attended. Indeed this year looks like it is going to be one of the best attended Refresh Mini-Conferences we have ever held.

I’m really looking forward to it.

There will be Games, Bible Studies, Worship, Food and an evening Bonfire Sing-Along.

We will be looking at the Book of Ecclesiastes in our studies and it will “teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom” – Psalm 90:12.

Have I already said I’m looking forward to it?

I love the Book of Ecclesiastes and it contains one of my favourite verses in the Bible; “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” – Ecclesiastes 3:11. It fills me with hope to know that God is in control. That He is sovereign and He makes everything beautiful in its time.

It makes me think of the poem ‘The Weaver’ –

My life is but a weaving, between my God and me,
I do not choose the colours, He worketh steadily.
Ofttimes he weaveth sorrow, and I in foolish pride
Forget He sees the upper, and I the underside.
Not till the loom is silent, and the shuttles cease to fly,
Will God unroll the canvas, and explain the reasons why
The dark threads are as needful in the skillful weaver’s hand
As threads of gold and silver in the pattern He has planned.

He knows, He loves, He cares,
Nothing this truth can dim.
He gives His very best to those
Who leave the choice with Him.

God is good and God is love, and God is in control. These are great truths to hold onto. We pray that the young people really get hold of this.

So having said that, please can you pray for us as we hold this event.

Please pray for safety for all involved, both young people & volunteers. Pray that everyone has a fun time and meets with God over the Conference. Pray that young lives are changed for eternity by the Good News.

Thank you and Be Blessed!

Hammer Time!

Now despite my love of comics, this post is not about Thor from the Avengers, it’s rather referencing the 1990’s pop star MC Hammer. Why?

Because he had a hit with a song called ‘Pray’ and some of the lyrics in the chorus went as such ‘We’ve got to pray just to make it today’. I thought given the world in which we live in, that is such an apt lyric.

Also again during the 1990’s the Christian band, the World Wide Message Tribe had a song about prayer that contained the following lyrics, ‘Prayer strikes the ground like a rhino charging.’

I love that image of prayer having such an impact on the world around us, which it indeed does.

So this Sunday 26th August we are having our monthly Prayer Gathering, where we will be praying for the work of Llandudno Youth for Christ. 7-8pm at Ty Llywelyn Community Centre. Please come along and pray with us, to see God move in the lives of young people in Llandudno and beyond.

“rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer”

We hope you can make it.

Be Blessed.

Robot Wars of Jurassic Proportions!

Last Sunday night we held the first of our ‘God, Goats & Games‘ evenings. It was a fun packed time with everyone getting really stuck into the event.

At the Robot Wars ‘G,G,G’ our director Tim Gough used the film Jurassic Park to illustrate different ways we can react to monstrous situations in our lives. We can run away in fear from them; we can react with inexperience and try to sort it all out on our own; we can face up to the monsters and be enthusiastic but unwise; or we can be like King Jehoshaphat and be wise by taking our situation to God to get His help. Please read 2 Chronicles 20 for more on King Jehoshaphat’s wisdom when facing a monstrous situation.

God, Goats & Games, or ‘G,G,G‘ as we abbreviate it is the event we run during the month of August to replace our regular ‘Reverb Youth Space‘ and ‘Redefine‘ events, and is an amalgam of both of them, with young people from both events in attendance.

This is a great opportunity for building community, which is a very important part of what we do here at Llandudno Youth for Christ.

During this month we have a total of 4 nights of G,G,G, plus our ‘Refresh‘ mini conference at St David’s College, an epic water fight and our Late Lock in. It’s a great month of events that are lots of fun and an opportunity to let the young people know how much God loves them and has a great plan for their lives.

At the next G,G,G night we will be having a Pizza & Movie night on Aug 19th, then the week after that will be a joint 4 square tournament & musicals sing-along night on Aug 26th, and we will be finishing off the month with a Human Cluedo & Leavers Banquet on Sept 2nd.

Please pray for us during August. Pray that God would use the events that we are running to speak to the hearts of the young people that attend and that we would have opportunities to share the good news of Jesus with them.

Be blessed.
